The main idea is when the first gamma camera was created. A gamma camera images gamma rays emitted by radiopharmaceuticals inside the body by using a sodium iodide scintillation crystal paired with many photomultiplier tubes. The signals from all those tubes are processed—using Anger logic—to pinpoint where in the crystal a gamma ray interacted, producing a two-dimensional image of tracer distribution. This was a breakthrough because it let clinicians visualize functional processes in organs, not just structure.

Hal Anger developed the first gamma camera in 1958, a milestone that laid the foundation for planar nuclear medicine imaging and later advances like SPECT. The other years don’t fit because the device hadn’t been invented yet in 1931 or 1946, and while gamma cameras became more common in the 1960s, the original invention is dated to 1958.
